چکیده
Raman spectroscopy complimented with infrared spectroscopy has been used to study a series of selected natural halogenated carbonates from different origins including bastnasite, parisite and northupite. The position of CO3 symmetric stretching vibration varies with mineral composition. An additional band for northupite at 1107 cm is observed. Raman spectra of bastnasite, parisite and northupite show a single band at 1433, 1420 and 1554 cm respectively, assigned to the ν3 (CO3) asymmetric stretching mode. The observation of additional Raman bands for the ν3 modes for some halogentaed carbonates is significant in that it shows distortion of the CaO6 octahedron No ν2 Raman bending modes are observed for these minerals. The band is observed in the infrared spectra and multiple ν2 modes at 844 and 867 cm are observed for parisite. A single intense infrared band is found at 879 cm for northupite. Raman bands are observed for the carbonate ν4 in phase bending modes at 722 cm for bastnasite, 736 and 684 cm for parisite, 714 cm for northupite. Multiple bands are observed in the OH stretching region for selected bastansites and parisites indicating the presence of water and OH units in the mineral structure. The presence of such bands brings into question the actual formula of these halogenated carbonate minerals.

On the potential of Raman-spectroscopy-based carbonate mass spectrometry
The potential for using Raman spectroscopy to measure stable oxygen isotope ratios (O/O) in carbonates is evaluated by measuring the Raman spectra and isotope ratios of a suite of 60 synthesized, O-enriched calcite crystals ranging in composition from natural abundance (0.2mole-% O) to 1.2 mole-% O.We determined the Raman-inferred isotopic ratios (RRaman) by fitting curves to the n1 symmetric s...

We describe Raman spectroscopy-based method of measuring thermal conductivity of thin films and review significant results achieved with this technique pertinent to graphene and other two-dimensional materials. The optothermal Raman method was instrumental for the discovery of unique heat conduction properties of graphene. In this method, Raman spectroscopy is used to determine the local temper...
متن کاملPrecise measurement of the depolarization ratio from photoacoustic Raman spectroscopy
A new method for the accurate determination of the Raman depolarization ratio is reported with an improved setup for photoacoustic Raman spectroscopy (PARS). The precise measurement is achieved by measuring the dependence of the acoustic signal intensity on the cross-angle between the polarizations of two incident laser beams. We demonstrate this sensitive and simple method with several gaseous...
متن کاملSurface-enhanced Raman scattering of protoberberine alkaloids
Quaternary protoberberine alkaloids are a class of natural dyes characterized by bright colors ranging from yellow to orange. As they present a strong fluorescence emission, their analysis by Raman spectroscopy is limited to specific techniques such as Fourier transform (FT)-Raman and spectral shift Raman techniques such as shifted subtracted Raman difference spectroscopy (SSRDS) and shifted ex...
متن کاملRaman spectroscopy for the investigation of carbon-based black pigments
Raman spectroscopic studies of carbonaceous materials are, until now, mainly devoted to geological and industrial materials. On the other hand, it is known from artistic literature that many varieties of carbon-based black pigments were produced and used in different places and times, and according to the artist’s preferences. The ability of Raman spectroscopy to analyse particles down to 1μm a...
